This ain’t a Jay Z, Kanye or “Watch the Throne” hate post. I’m listening to the album right now and it’s pretty good. But while we’re caught in the hype of 2 of Hip-Hop’s biggest stars coming together and all the #WTT tweets and reviews, it’s a lot more important stuff going on the world we need to be paying attention to, like:
Apparently protests only get airtime when they hold signs that paint President Obama as a jigaboo African tribesman or some kind of reverse minstrel (the Joker? yeah right, it was clear Tea Party angst reached back to some ol’ Stepin Fetchit blackface for that one). But when average, mostly white, Americans march in the tens of thousands — teachers, nurses and firefighters — against a Koch-backed Tea Party governor the home page of CNN.com is giving us “Black Thanksgiving.” Apparently a day when Black folks everywhere make a pilgrimage to LA and the Staples Center and give thanks for basketball.
Nothing like a good game to distract us from what’s really goin’ on. Not saying I won’t be watching (HA!), but let’s keep our eye on the ball.
